The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is entering a new phase of growth as the league prepares to expand with two additional franchises. Hyderabad and Sialkot have been identified as the host cities for the seventh and eighth PSL teams, marking a significant milestone in the league’s evolution and its mission to broaden the reach of T20 cricket across Pakistan.
This expansion will increase the total number of PSL teams from six to eight, allowing the league to tap into new fan bases, enhance commercial opportunities, and strengthen Pakistan’s domestic cricket infrastructure. By bringing top-tier cricket to new regions, the PSL continues to reinforce its status as the country’s premier T20 competition.
Hyderabad has been announced as the home city for PSL Team 7, following a successful franchise acquisition by FKS, which secured the rights with a bid of approximately PKR 1.75 billion. While the official team name and branding have not yet been revealed, league officials have indicated that a formal unveiling ceremony will take place in the coming weeks.
The selection of Hyderabad reflects the PSL’s strategic focus on cities with strong commercial potential and passionate cricket audiences. The city boasts a long-standing cricketing culture and a loyal fan base, making it a suitable location for a professional T20 franchise. Hosting PSL matches is expected to further energize local cricket development and provide fans with regular access to elite-level competition. With this addition, Hyderabad is set to join established PSL centers such as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, further diversifying the league’s geographic presence and strengthening its national appeal.
Sialkot has been chosen as the home city for the eighth PSL franchise, with OZ Developers winning the rights through a bid of around PKR 1.85 billion, exceeding the league’s base valuation. Although the franchise’s official name is yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that Sialkot will host the team’s home fixtures once league schedules are finalized. The inclusion of Sialkot underscores the PSL’s commitment to expanding into cities with a rich sporting heritage. Sialkot is internationally recognized for producing world-class cricketers and high-quality sports equipment, and it has a deeply engaged and knowledgeable cricket community. Granting the city a PSL franchise is expected to boost local pride, increase national exposure, and further integrate Sialkot into Pakistan’s professional cricket landscape.
League officials have emphasized that adding Hyderabad and Sialkot aligns with the PSL’s long-term growth strategy. Both cities offer strong market potential, growing sponsorship opportunities, and enthusiastic fan engagement, making them attractive locations for new franchises.
The expansion is expected to deliver several key benefits, including:
Broader regional representation across Pakistan
Increased sponsorship and advertising revenue
Higher broadcast viewership and digital engagement
More opportunities for domestic players to compete at a high level
Since its launch, the Pakistan Super League has steadily grown in popularity both locally and internationally. Expanding the league not only enhances competition but also strengthens its commercial value and global profile.
With Hyderabad and Sialkot officially entering the fold, the PSL is set for an exciting period of development. League officials have indicated that further announcements regarding team branding, player drafts, match schedules, and venues will be made in the near future. The addition of two new teams is also expected to introduce fresh rivalries, intensify competition, and create new pathways for emerging talent. As the Pakistan Super League continues to evolve, this expansion represents a major step toward solidifying its position as one of the leading T20 leagues in world cricket.
