As the Pakistan Super League (PSL) prepares for its expansion to eight teams in its 11th season, three iconic franchises have secured their future with long-term commitments. Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators have all signed new 10-year agreements with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), reaffirming their belief in the league’s growing value and potential.
The franchise renewals, confirmed via press releases on November 24, come as PSL gears up for its biggest shake-up yet. The inclusion of two additional teams marks a significant milestone for the league, while the extension of contracts for Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta adds a layer of stability and confidence in the future.
Lahore Qalandars led the way by announcing their commitment to the PSL via social media, stating: “Lahore Qalandars proudly renew their PSL commitment for another 10 years! A new decade begins for Pakistan’s most valuable PSL franchise.”
The renewal decisions follow updated franchise valuations conducted by global audit firm Ernst & Young, with the exception of Multan Sultans, which was excluded from the process. While Karachi Kings and Islamabad United are yet to confirm their renewals, discussions are ongoing.
Lahore Qalandars have emerged as one of the PSL’s most successful teams under current ownership. The franchise, which has won three titles, including back-to-back championships, remains committed to long-term growth. Their Players Development Program (PDP) and High Performance Centre have played a crucial role in nurturing young talent in Pakistan.
Franchise COO Sameen Rana expressed pride in the Qalandars’ evolution: “This journey has been built on hard work, stability, and a clear vision. As we step into the next decade, our ambition is even stronger.”
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised the team for its contributions to the league and the development of Pakistani cricket. He said, “The Qalandars’ commitment has always been to the growth of cricket and developing young talent.”
Peshawar Zalmi, 2017 PSL champions, have also committed to another 10 years. The franchise, led by Javed Afridi, has become one of the league’s most commercially successful and widely followed teams.
Afridi reflected on the renewal, saying: “This milestone is a tribute to our unwavering belief in PSL’s growth and to our fans who have stood by us. We pledge to continue empowering youth and representing Pakistan on the global stage.”
Naqvi highlighted Afridi’s leadership, acknowledging his pivotal role in strengthening the Zalmi brand and the PSL’s global standing. Salman Naseer, CEO of PSL, added: “Peshawar Zalmi’s energy, inclusivity, and deep connection with fans have been central to shaping the PSL’s identity.”
Quetta Gladiators have also secured their place in the PSL for the next decade, continuing under the leadership of Nadeem Omar. Known for their loyal fan base and consistent on-field performances, Quetta’s renewal ensures the continuation of their significant role in the league.
Naqvi commended Omar for his dedication: “Nadeem Omar and his team have built a loyal fan base and elevated the franchise’s stature both locally and internationally. His renewed commitment speaks volumes about his faith in the league’s future.”
Naseer echoed these sentiments, highlighting Omar’s contributions to the development of cricket in Pakistan and his team’s strong alignment with the league’s long-term goals.
With Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators now committed to the PSL until 2035, the league enters a new chapter with a solid foundation. The shift to eight teams will bring fresh dynamics, but the core franchises’ long-term ownership and strategic focus ensure the continued growth of the PSL.
These renewals signal stability and reinforce the belief of major cricket investors in the PSL’s long-term value—not just as a commercial entity, but as a platform for developing the next generation of cricketing talent in Pakistan.
